Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations." (Matthew 28:19)
The Mission Statement of St. Thomas More parish begins by declaring “an atmosphere of hospitality” is foundational to our community. Being a welcoming parish means everyone is eager to welcome the people we meet, and to greet both newcomers and folks we see all the time. Hospitality means we invite our neighbors and extended family and friends to join us in worship and prayer and parish activities.
The pastoral letter Unleash the Gospel makes hospitality a priority for Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit. It is art of our striving to be made by the Holy Spirit into “a band of joyful missionary disciples.” In fact, the Foundational Conviction of Unleash the Gospel includes a call for every parish – with their member families and individuals – undergoing a “missionary conversion” through personal encounter with Jesus Christ, to “actively seek the spiritual and social renewal of its neighborhood, schools and places of work.” We are called to live with “unusually gracious hospitality” complementing “a strikingly countercultural way of living grounded in prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments.
So if you are one of those smiling, helpful people, you are invited to serve STM parish and all its members and visitors through gracious welcoming and hospitality at the doors, sharing a simple “joyful confidence in the providence of God” with every “Hello!”
Our Weekend Receptionist is stationed at the reception desk in the Gathering Area before Mass. The receptionist pre-registers new parishioners, schedules Mass intentions, assists parishioners and newcomers, and answers general questions about the parish.
