The Parish Finance Council members are to have a clear understanding of the parish's mission, goals, structure and demographics.
The Finance Council help the pastor act as a just steward of the parish's material resources.
The Finance Council helps facilitate how utilization of parish resources may best accomplish the pastoral priorities and mission of the parish which are determined by the pastor with the Parish Pastoral Council.
In this regard, the Pastoral Council helps the pastor to be a good shepherd to the people of the parish and the Finance Council helps him to be a good steward and administrator of the parish goods to accomplish the parish goals.

Canon Law requires a parish to have an active Finance Council to help assure sound and transparent fiscal management practices that fulfill the mission of the parish. The Finance Council meets regularly (usually monthly), to review and discuss the management of income and expenditures. The pastor consults the Finance Council on expenditures and is required to obtain the Council's consent on certains acts parish goods. Finance Council members are appointed of the pastor, and include people with expertise in the finance, civil law, accounting, property management, budgeting and personnel management.
